Toyota Prius: Parking Brake Cable

13 October 2016

Following the announcement made by Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) in Japan on 12 October 2016, Borneo Motors Singapore (BMS) will implement a Safety-Related Vehicle Recall for select Toyota Prius model.

This is a proactive measure Toyota is taking to ensure the continued safety of our Toyota customers.

The subject vehicles are equipped with a foot-operated parking brake system. This parking brake system contains a parking brake cable and crank lever which, upon activation, transmit the force of the parking brake pedal to the brake caliper piston.

Over time, during normal operation of the vehicle, the cable could disengage, causing the parking brake to become inoperative. If the parking brake does not engage and the transmission is left in a gear other than 'Park' mode while the ignition is on, the vehicle could roll away, increasing the risk of a crash.

Under this recall, BMS will inspect and, if necessary, clips will be added on the top of the brake cable dust boots (covers that help prevent dust and water from entering the brake cable) to prevent the brake cable from becoming inoperative. This remedy will be performed at no cost to customers.

At the moment, we are still pending further clarifications on the involved Toyota Prius model distributed and sold by BMS.

Customers can call our Toyota Customer Contact Centre at 6631 1188 or email at cr@inchcape.com.sg for assistance.
